Tis the season, y’all! The COUNTDOWN TO CHRISTMAS is ON and I’m one Thanksgiving dinner away from going into full out Christmas mode!
[Show of hands real quick: do you deck the halls before Thanksgiving or do you celebrate one holiday at a time?]
Chances are, if it’s your baby’s first Christmas, you’ve probably been excited since July.
When a baby has a day filled with learning through play and exploration, she is more likely to sleep more soundly at night. Here’s a quick guide to my top 10 gifts for your baby’s first Christmas.
This gift is on everyone’s list this Christmas. Babies love stacking (and knocking down) so why not give them a beautiful wooden set to build with? If you’re interested in more sets like this one, check out the whole
Grimm’s Spiel and Holz Design page on Amazon. They have tons of amazing products for babies to build and explore and learn with.
Sensory balls are a great way for your baby to practice fine motor and gross motor skills as well has enhancing hand-eye coordination. Not only will your child love the feel of these sensory balls, but he can learn how to roll, then throw and catch! These are sure to be a favorite for years!
This adorable tree has been flying off the shelves this season. I’ve seen it all over Instagram and Facebook. It’s such a cute way to show your baby that he CAN have a Christmas tree and ornaments too… just NOT the fragile ones of the family tree!
Your baby can explore the various sounds of different classical instruments while hearing music from the orchestra. You can add or take away instruments as you press the buttons. This cube is so interactive and engaging for even the smallest babies.
This is a personal favorite of mine. My oldest baby got this as a gift for his first Christmas and 5 years later, he STILL loves his Scout. I may be buying another one this Christmas for my youngest! Scout/Violet can be programmed to know your child’s name and favorite things. You can sing songs with your Scout/Violet, play games and hear bedtime music.
6. Board Books!

As an educator, I have to encourage you to read to your baby every day. Never forget that YOU are your baby’s first teacher and you can set the tone for a lifelong love of learning and reading through your job as a role model. These board books are great. Reading books like these on a daily basis will help your baby learn to identify objects in their world.
These rockers aren’t your ordinary rocking horses. They’re modern and adorable and I wish I had one for myself! My favorite thing about them is that they’re comfortable and the seat has 3 sides of support for your baby. It also has a seat belt so you know your baby is safe!
This is another one of those toys that is going to keep your baby engaged for hours, while practicing their motor skills and hand-eye coordination. Your baby is going to be learning and having fun and even learning colors.
When I had my first born, we were gifted a name puzzle. Of course it sat untouched for a few years, but it is now a staple and each of my three kids have one. Not only are they teaching my kids how to spell their names, but they’re also special and meaningful gifts.
How cute, right?! I’m 99% sure every kid would love their own little chair. These particular chairs come in various colors, so they’ll match any room decor. I love when I see milestone pictures every month in these chairs, so they’re great to get even when your baby isn’t quite sitting independently yet.
Ta da! There you have it, my top 10 list of gifts for your baby’s first Christmas! Above all else, I hope that you truly enjoy your holidays and have the chance to spend the season with the ones you love the most. And for you new mamas out there who are running on coffee and yoga pants, I promise that by this time next year, you’ll be wondering how you got there so quickly. Time flies so enjoy every moment of this stage.
If your baby is still struggling with sleeping through the night, and you’re ready to start working together,
let’s set up a time to chat!
Some things to think about when deciding when you want to start sleep training your baby/toddler:
- Ensure it’s the proper timing- make sure your baby isn’t sick, you aren’t traveling, or you don’t have any big life changes coming (new baby, moving, switching jobs/childcare, etc.).
- Be prepared to put in the work. Consistency will pay off in the long run. Sleep training isn’t overnight success; it takes many nights and dedication to help your baby learn to sleep.
